Mural Masterpiece

Early this year we entered the ‘Mural masterpiece’ competition which is sponsored by Resene, we decided on the location where the mural would be put and started the planning. We wanted to incorporate our local area, community and culture and to do so we collaborated with the tamariki/children and whānau/families on ideas and designs of what they wanted to see on the mural, these were then handed over to the artist Nicola Neilson who created Picton Kindergarten’s ‘Mural Masterpiece’. Since having the mural we have noticed it being used as a great talking point where children share experiences linking to the mural, it also adds colour and pride into our Kindergarten, beautifying an area for all to enjoy.

St John Ambulance

We had Ambi the St John Ambulance visit us at Kindergarten. We got to learn about the clothing the paramedics wear and what the equipment we might encounter if there was ever an emergency and needed to go inside an ambulance.

Billy the Goat

We had a visit by a goat named Billy. Billy ate EVERYTHING and we got to give him a bottle of milk. It was a great chance for us all to practice how to be kind, caring and gentle.

Tawhirimatea's Wind

We made the most of Tawhirimatea’s Wind (the Māori Atua/God of the wind and storms) and made some kites. We decorated the kids and took them out to the School field to made them fly.

Matariki Celebrations

We celebrated Matariki by holding a performance for our whanau and friends. We sung waiata and read a book we made called ‘Tane and the Stars’.
