Mayfield Teachers

Lyn Stark – Head Teacher (B Teaching & Learning)

I believe in getting alongside children and encouraging them to extend themselves and to believe in their own abilities. I enjoy working with small groups challenging their creative and physical skills whilst having fun.

Jane Rutland - Head Teacher (Dip Teaching ECE)

As a teacher I feel it is important to allow children to independently explore their environment by trying out new things.  I believe in giving encouragement and emotional support to develop their confidence to take steps to achieve what they are trying to do.

My teaching philosophy encourages children to develop their own theories about the world, supporting ideas and noting how they change as their knowledge develops.

Fostering a child's imagination gives me great pleasure while also encouraging children to develop their interests and embarking on projects to further their knowledge and broaden their thinking.

Kim Hollis – Teacher (NZFKTU Diploma)

Teaching is one of my passions. I love supporting children to develop their social and emotional intelligence.

I value ethical, respectful, positive and collaborative relationships with children and their families, and with the team.

I work with children to support their inquiring minds as they begin to make sense of their world and reflect on their own learning. I have a strong interest in children using ICT and other technology within our programme.

I have a thirst for learning especially in science and human development. I believe we never stop learning, and I endeavor to learn something new every day. I believe laughter is a great healer and enjoy the spontaneous fun at our kindergarten.

It is a great honor to work alongside children; they are our future, precious, delightful and deserving of the best I can give.

Roxy Jones - Teacher (B.Teach ECE)

Kia ora, I believe that whanaungatanga - relationships are the heart of teaching and learning.  During my years of teaching I have participated in the development and implementation of our Early Childhood Curriculum -Te Whaariki - and am passionate about the strong links with Te Ao Maori and family and community that Te Whaariki intrinsically offers.

I believe that learning should be fun, stimulating and celebrate the opportunity we have to enjoy and nurture our diverse learning community through the sharing of song, stories and celebration.  I am a life long learner and consider myself fortunate to be in an environment where I am both teacher and learner.

No reira, tena Koutoa, tena Koutou, tena koutou katoa.

Jo Fowke - Administrator

My role at Mayfield Kindergarten allows me to experience a number of different challenges that are exciting to me.  These include administration, supporting the wonderful teachers, preparing our shared morning tea using the food provided by Mayfield families and working with the children.

I am married and have one secondary school aged daughter.  I enjoy gardening and running the Wither Hills, and as a family we do lots of camping and enjoy the outdoors and the Marlborough Sounds.

Ally Gibbons – Teacher Support

My role and passion at Mayfield Kindergarten is supporting children who require extra time one to one with their learning.

I am there to support teachers and feel very privileged to work with these children and proud to see their achievements.
