Our Kindergartens


At Mayfield Kindergarten, we have a strong focus on the environment and the outdoors. Our new purpose built building is situated on a large section, creating an exciting outdoor classroom including natural elements such as a stream, mud pit, grassy hills, exploration of nature and many challenges for children.

Throughout the programme, children participate in sustainable practices like recycling paper into usable items, collection of rainwater, worm farming, composting etc. The kindergarten curriculum enables children to become confident and competent learners within a fun supportive atmosphere.


Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:45am to 2:45pm
Friday 8:45am to 1:00pm

Our Community

We have a strong focus on supporting families. Our whanau room is a place where parents can sit and chat, and a community hub meets here every Friday.

Our mixed age morning session enables siblings to attend together.  Our extended sessions for the older children enable them to work collaboratively on projects within small groups.

Priorities for Learners

At Mayfield Kindergarten we value the importance of children developing a positive sense of well-being to enable them to become successful learners.

Through building strong partnerships with tamariki and  whānau we acknowledge and affirm children’s culture and whanau aspirations for their tamariki. Through these relationships children develop trust that enables their confidence and independence to grow.

We believe in all children developing a strong sense of belonging. This is encouraged through teaching strategies that nurture their belief in themselves and their abilities. The kindergarten environment reflects who they are, their interests and the knowledge that they bring.

We encourage children to develop social confidence by fostering concepts of ako and tuakana- teina. Through this children grow an understanding that we are all learners.

The ultimate goal is for children to be capable and confident learners who respect individual differences and leave kindergarten with a disposition to learn.
